Additive is a story of self.
Throughout my life I’ve come to notice the difficulty people have associating opposites with a whole. I am a very happy person with many blessings. I also have fairly intense anxiety and panic attacks. Neither of these disqualifies the other, or any facet of myself, yet allowing them to exist in the same space causes discomfort.
Why is it so difficult to accept this dichotomy? This is what Additive investigates. Titled after the process of additive color mixing (in which all colors of light shone together ultimately create pure white), this piece demonstrates how all portions of me combine together to make myself in entirety. Without one of the aspects I would not be me, just as without one of the colors the lights final tone would shift.
Each poster in this series of 6 is based off of a specific entry in my middle school, high school, and college journals. Some represent my happiest of memories, while others represent my hardest moments. By being presented in the medium of AR posters it demonstrates once again how both parts are necessary to experience the whole. The physical paper on the wall is itself a display, but when viewed through the digital lens it comes to life with completely new dimension. Finally, each piece demonstrates a different color. When they viewed as a whole a full image of me comes forward. Just like additive mixing, all parts are necessary.
